I still love a good horror movie, but Hostel and its ilk turned me off. Scare me, don't just gross me out. That's amateur hour.Streets of Stamfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08021954676706868948noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-82758891740193577192009-03-13T10:09:00.000-04:002009-03-13T10:09:00.000-04:00Well, there is the upcoming A Haunting in Connecti...Well, there is the upcoming A Haunting in Connecticut, which looks promising.B-Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10717121313061173603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-66846121309060368452009-03-13T00:36:00.000-04:002009-03-13T00:36:00.000-04:00I absolutely concur with your comments on the plag...I absolutely concur with your comments on the plague of 'torture porn' in the horror genre these days. However a supernaturally themed film done well, can still get a squeal out of me! Especially those within the Asian horror genre, who do supernatural so well ie: Tale of Two Sisters, Dumplings and Ju-on. I am looking forward to a new ghost story film soon, heard of any on the horizon?

http://musingcontinuum.wordpress.com/.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-9634736934684092602009-03-10T22:17:00.000-04:002009-03-10T22:17:00.000-04:00Hey B,Sorry for being away for so long.I cant even...Hey B,

Sorry for being away for so long.

I cant even begin to tell you how I agree with you. There is still something chilling about a well made J-horror ghost film but for the most part it's just chills and thrills. But a film like inside or last house on the left really churn my stomach. Don't get me wrong they are wonderfully made films but I have a daughter and a son and I worry for there safety every day. These types of films are really hard to sit through without thinking of my kids. I can't imagine how I would react if I came home to my house being broken into (ala the strangers) I think you hit it B, the scary part, no..... stomach turning TERRIFYING part is that there re people just like that in the world now, perhaps living next door to you, and the hardest part is that no exorcism, ghost buster, demon hunter or super solider can save the day. It's easy to convince your self that there are no Zombies, but there are monsters, and not just under the bed

Later days,

Christopher Zenga
thedayafterart.blogspot.comChristopher Zengahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04621627648001812605noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-38502879225441670202009-03-10T12:32:00.000-04:002009-03-10T12:32:00.000-04:00RayRay - Great post, B-Sol. I really like the fact you wind up that the real world is far scarier than anything the movies has. forget even the mundane stuff, [mortgage, food], what people do to other people, even by accident, is very disturbing. And then there are the real sickos, be they predators or tyrants.

Like John Carpenter said in a recent documentary: there are two types of horror stories: one is that the horror is out there somewhere in the dark; the other is that the horror is inside all of us.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-3730850748581823372009-03-10T12:06:00.000-04:002009-03-10T12:06:00.000-04:00Thanks Wings! Thanks Wings!B-Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10717121313061173603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-85946193924252650982009-03-10T11:37:00.000-04:002009-03-10T11:37:00.000-04:00I agree with your post in quite a few places, espe...I agree with your post in quite a few places, especially the change that comes over you as you grow and mature and have kids of your own.

I think it may just be the natural process of life. We can't stay 'scared kids' when we have scared kids of our own.

And I agree with your take on the 'torture' movies, as well. I think a good example of this is Halloween - comparing the original to the remake. I still like the original, maybe even more so now, with it's subduded take on the horror. Zombie's remake is way too graphic for my tastes.

Great post!Wings1295https://www.blogger.com/profile/08045644215235749353noreply@blogger.com
