For me, though, I felt like all its messages could have been reached without being so abusive. While everyone turned in an absolutely brilliant performance, I found the rape scene unbearable. And that's actually really saying something for me because I can sit through some serious depravity without having to flee. While the film itself is not filled with hate, that individual scene is, and it was much more than I could take.

Cannibal Holocaust is on my "one day when I am feeling brave" list, so I'll have more to say when that day comes.Missy Y.http://babyjanehudson.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-58975419387127127592010-10-06T11:46:19.349-04:002010-10-06T11:46:19.349-04:00Very interesting series. I think both films mentio...Very interesting series. I think both films mentioned are masterpieces in their own way: Cannibal Holocaust for actually saying something about exploitation (even if, much like Men Behind the Sun, it shoots itself in the foot by USING exploitation to do so) and Irreversible for so many more reasons. The way it unwinds in reverse, leaving you to rethink everything that happened by knowing these people after the fact, is truly tragic. I love that the film opens with the character from Noe’s previous film, I Stand Alone, spitting out more nihilistic existentialism. I love how it essentially turns rape revenge on its head by denying you any form of catharsis and showing what a waste the vengeance really is. I love the natural, smart, and dreamy conversations between the three leads who unfurl as imperfect people. I don’t recommend it to most people, but for a lot of reasons, I really do think it’s amazing.deadlydollshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06061028044836745499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-73999894978765690082010-10-06T09:15:06.323-04:002010-10-06T09:15:06.323-04:00I personally am too scared to watch Cannibal Holoc...I personally am too scared to watch Cannibal Holocaust. I've had it on video for YEARS but fear has stopped me from putting it into the VCR. From what you've said about the movie I'm pretty glad I haven't seen it!Emily Louise Churchhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11682376681783375451noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-31623291298367584012010-10-06T07:05:05.443-04:002010-10-06T07:05:05.443-04:00I've now read all about it, of course. But I ...I've now read all about it, of course. But I have to say, nothing I have read justifies the first act of the film. Also, upon reading that she was supposedly pregnant, I can't help but have that disbelief reaction... like, "Really? How about the kitchen sink, too?"Missy Y.http://babyjanehudson.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-10437370976121157082010-10-06T01:24:40.706-04:002010-10-06T01:24:40.706-04:00Too bad you didn't make until the end (or is i...Too bad you didn't make until the end (or is it the beginning now?) of the movie.

Because in the last act is where the truly beauty of this film really is.Don't Get Nasty Brotherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12851094827079500164noreply@blogger.com
