But I didn't need to take a deep breath until after I read this reply.

Someday, I hope it'll dawn on you that I wasn't responding to your latest comment up there, nor the one before, so much as a trend I've observed over the year I've faithfully read your blog. And sometimes it's charlie to use myself as an example, if for no other reason than to stymie the presumption that I think I can speak for anyone else.

But I feel like I've stepped out of line, and it won't happen again. I really hope you weren't as rankled as you sounded here. And I hope I sound more measured than I feel now.

Anyway. Happy blogging and enjoy those Naschy movies.Mr. Cavinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01634994342702518448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-57341932112312938632009-05-20T13:37:40.980-04:002009-05-20T13:37:40.980-04:00Well considering my comment had absolutely nothing...Well considering my comment had absolutely nothing to do with you, my good man, I tend to think your reaction says more about your own perception of how your comments were somehow affecting me. I've actually found your comments helpful more than anything else, as is evidenced by my first response to you at the top of this thread. In fact, I am now proud to say I will be touching on Naschy and the gang in part 2 of my werewolf diatribe. So I think your best bet is to take a deep breath and take solace in the fact that this is not about you. Now smile :-)B-Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10717121313061173603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-88873503483841292922009-05-20T12:41:45.040-04:002009-05-20T12:41:45.040-04:00"...my faaavvvoorite kind of comment..."I don't kn..."...my faaavvvoorite kind of comment..."I don't know what to say. This is sadly true. While I was very amused by your vlog rant about the jerks who pester you with really rude commentary here and at your other places, I sense that you have begun to draw your lines a little defensively. I've tried to start a conversation about your theses here, and in the past, only to be succinctly shut down.

I do not feel like you are open to debate or conversation or even learning anything. I do not feel like you are comfortable with input. I do not think you are interested in asking any questions you do not already think you know the answers to.

There is nothing wrong with that. But it means that most of the content here is autobiographical rather than comprehensive. Take this post. It isn't about the history of werewolf movies. It's about you. I have no problem with that, nor with your opinions. But I imagine that there are people who, set up to expect the comprehensive, are a little jarred to be confronted with the limitations of your experience.

I recognize that people can be quite rude, I realize they have been brutally so (and I hope to god I haven't been one of them. If I have, please forgive me, it was not my intent at all); but much of what makes you defensive can also be viewed as people, however awkwardly, trying to help you out. There is nothing, for example, obscure or insignificant about Paul Naschy's contribution to werewolf cinema. Honestly, I was trying to help.

Perhaps if you titled this post "Werewolf Movies I Really Like" it would clear some of this confusion up, broadcast what it is you are really trying to do. Perhaps it would settle the hash of those who think you are proclaiming an expertise when all you are really interested in is fandom.Mr. Cavinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01634994342702518448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-75886915638847506772009-05-20T11:10:50.182-04:002009-05-20T11:10:50.182-04:00Awesome, you're catching on to my faaavvvoorite ki...Awesome, you're catching on to my faaavvvoorite kind of comment...... :-|B-Solhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10717121313061173603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-77083122174169279732009-05-20T10:23:10.768-04:002009-05-20T10:23:10.768-04:00HEY! Yes, I can see that you've not included Cat People here.

The reason I asked you, I guess, was because I was interested in knowing exactly what definition you actually were operating under. You also haven't included the Mad Monster, for example. But you have included She-Wolf of London.

Apparently, I am one-third of the way through reading your list here, and I still don't know how it is you're going about picking and choosing what to call a "werewolf movie." She-Wolf... is a tantalizing clue that you are not all that hung-up on the supernatural for your werewolf tale (good for you!), but Cat People isn't "strict" enough.

It is going to be much more important to know how you are drawing your lines for the last installment of this list. Are Wolfen or a Brotherhood of Wolves to be included? One is rather supernatural, and even involves clinical lycanthropy, but there is no crossover between people and monsters. The other is even weirder but even less supernatural. Both are steeped in werewolf lore.

So what is your definition, and what makes it stricter than mine?Mr. Cavinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01634994342702518448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8470604276410220159.post-30028817217329656282009-05-17T23:46:00.000-04:002009-05-17T23:46:00.000-04:00Great post. I had assumed that would be the second of your three "major eras"--orange blooded and badly dubbed sangria-wolf howlers. I mean, it is hard to imagine that you can talk werewolves at all without mentioning ten Paul Naschy movies, or Lycanthropus, or Werewolves on Wheels. I mean this even if you are only narrowing your column to werewolves on US screens.

And do you not consider Cat People a werewolf movie? I mean, I understand why you might not, but I usually lump all of my "people who, owing to stimulus, transform into dangerous animals thereby subverting, to a greater or lesser degree, their own moral and social standing" stories together. More like a folklorist than a cineaste, I guess. I mean, to me even the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is debatably a werewolf story.Mr. Cavinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01634994342702518448noreply@blogger.com
