Cinema Blend broke the news yesterday that Sylvester Stallone has offered the lead role in his long-rumored Poe biopic to Viggo Mortensen of Lord of the Rings fame. Looks like this one is pretty solid, and Mortensen is apparently interested. But as with any project these days, who knows what impact the writers' strike may have.
Never noticed the uncanny resemblance till I put these two pics side-by-side. Kinda eerie. Which would please Poe, I suppose.
*11/16 UPDATE* Viggo Mortensen fansite Viggo-Works.com is reporting this rumor to be patently FALSE. Who's got the story straight here? Time will tell. Thanks to the anonymous commenter for tipping me off to this one.

Sources in VM's camp have confirmed that this is nothing but a bold faced lie, according to the Admins over at Viggo-Works, who have a most reliable 'mystic' dial-in to his powers that be, and it has been emphatically denied.
ReplyDeleteAfter Ed Harris' Appaloosa wraps, VM is doing McCarthy's 'The Road'. And after that, he's sworn in several articles and interviews that he's taking a break.
Not that he wouldn't be a great Poe. I appreciate the guy's talent enormously, and have always thought that he was rather poe-faced to start with, so this should have been his role of a lifetime. (snort)
Cinema Blend's 'trusted source' is a wanker. Be the first blogger to trounce it, and it will be the only real scoop this story will ever have.
The difference between an A and a B here? Homework.
And have a nice day.

Out.
Viggo killed it in A History of Violence, and he's one of those good actors that continue to throw out great performances. If he plays Poe, I for one will be super excited.
ReplyDeleteThere is an animated version of The Tell-Tale Heart at:

Looks pretty sharp, but I can't get it to work past the second part.
