Fans of Child's Play have a reason to rejoice today. They may not be all-too-happy that a remake of the 1988 slasher flick is being undertaken, but they can at least take solace in knowing that the impeccable Brad Dourif will once again be providing the voice of the killer doll Chucky, just as he did for all five films in the original series.
The news was announced yesterday by screenwriter Don Mancini at the Florida Fim Festival, and was first reported this morning by the Orlando Sentinel. I've never been a fan of these movies myself, but as a Nightmare on Elm Street fan, I can equate this with Robert Englund returning as Freddy in thatremake (which isn't happening), so I guess that's pretty cool.
yes horror remakes coming soon- childs play, a nightmare on elm street, the birds, friday 13th, wolfman, wes cravens shocker, the last house on the left, the people under the stairs, and various others in the next few years, lets see what they can do with them!
There are good and bads for this, one the beginning scene with Brad running while being chased before doing the chat, he's young there. . .he's old now, it'll look wierd, they better not add Tiffany in there, she was the one that started to ruin the series, I was happy when he accepted he was Chuck the Killer Doll in Seed and now this *sigh* all I can do is hope
In the words of Chucky...."What a crock!" I mean, don't get me wrong, I own every chucky flcik, every freddy, myers, Jason, even the leprechaun flicks....but remakes aren't justified by "Bringing them to a new generation" I'm 21, I'll turn 22 on the day the new Friday the 13th flick comes out! I am that generation MAN! And I love the oldies, you wanna make somethiing freash, pull a SAW like movie outta a hat, the magic of classics is they're classic, MAKE SOMETHING FRESH!
I gotta an idea for a horror flick, I'm writting is as a novel....see, a guy like me (a freak), a guy like me gets fed up with horror remakes and to send hollywood a message, he kills someone in the way that a victim dies in the orginal, like Nancy dies on her bedroom ceiling, the cops find a girl nailed in her upper right bedroom corner with claw marks...get it? A guy in a wheelchair get chainsawed in a park, and so on until they stop remaking movies...And it takes a cop with a blockbuster card to stop the killer because only a fan can make the difference! If you hate the remakes, don't see them, don't rent them, you money doesn't fund their remakes of a remake! But I'm a fan, i'll rent until it looks good, then i'll see it on the big screen...
I just don't get it....Horror films are not exactly perfect "we can fix this up and make it like new" material, I own every major franchise, from "The Omen" to "Saw" but, once you go so far in the series and people are fimilar with the characters, you can't go "But wait! There is something you didn't know! It happened 15 years before the first film, but is such a small plotline, that we'll freshen up the entire sereis, like an itch-a-sketch, cause the veiwers are dumb, we can take their money!"...it doesn't work like that in any genre, but horror fans like me who own every horror film I can buy, and there are tons of fans like me, who can say "WHAT THE FCUK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" but in the hopes that it pans out, we watch, theny cry at the mess...KING KONG was made in 1022, and then BANG! Here come this over the top remake, and people in high school that I know say "This is so new..." But its not! there are two type of people who go down the horror lane in the video store: Me and the guy who went there with the idea of renting a DVD, has no clue what kind, and finds his way next to me and grabs the first box and says "This looks like shit, but they're closing and it in my hand" And I see he's holding The Birds! Remakes only work when no one knows or get the oringinal, not well known, well love films with iconic characters!
THANKS DUDE! I'm writting that novel, and the script, its full of little nods to horror films, like when the fan cop goes to inspect the Elm Street killing, he drives to the crime scene with "Sweet Dreams" blarring out of his radio, and the apartment is the "last houseing unit on the left"...tons of good nods to horror films, not just the ones in which are as my cop says "He's not copying shit, he's remaking them, get the slang right." and to add my hatred of remakes, his boss replies "Whatever, maybe when we catch this sick fuck, we can add copyright infrengment to the chagres since he doesn't have persmisson no shut up and Scan the for evidince!" FUCK REMAKES!
Nooo!Chucky should not be remade!
ReplyDeleteNooooo! Chucky should not be remade!
ReplyDeleteAnd neither should Nightmare on Elm Street!
AAAAAAH! I want to kick them in the nuts!
Yes, unfortunately, both of these movies are being remade. And as much as I wish it would, I don't even think kicking them in the nuts would stop it.
ReplyDeleteI don't get why they have to remake them. Why can't they simply continue the series? Or 're-boot' them, a la Batman Begins?

ReplyDeleteHere, here--couldn't agree more!
ReplyDeleteActually, I was thinking about the "remakes suck" thing, but now that you mention it, I do agree with both posts!
