Vincent Price was more than a legend of the horror film genre. He was
its ultimate icon ambassador for all the things that go bump in the
night. On this night we pay tribute to the man who filled our hearts
with fright and made us love the dark and did it all with a wry smile
and an irresistible laugh. By the 1970s, Price was the elder statesman
of horror, and as such, made some of the most memorable films of his
entire career. In Theatre of Blood, he gives us the implacable Richard
Lionheart, a hammy Shakespearean out for bloody revenge against his
worst critics. The result is perhaps Price’s most intense and modern
thriller of all, as well as a delightful romp populated by an
outstanding cast of British character actors. And then comes Dr. Phibes,
the role Vincent Price was born to play. Some credit the film with
inspiring movies like Se7en and Saw. Pure joy from beginning to end, The
Abominable Dr. Phibes may just be the ultimate Vincent Price picture,
and just about the most fun you can have at the movies.
Bonus: Sit tight between features for a screening of the quirky Disney cartoon short Vincent, directed by Tim Burton!

Look up the phrase “So bad they’re good,” and you just might find
these two movies. For decades, moviegoers have loved bad films almost as
much as they love great films. But not just any bad films. In order to
be beloved, it has to be a unique kind of stinker; the kind that is so
much fun you can’t take your eyes off it. And that’s what we’ve got! We
kick things off with Sam Katzman’s dinosaur-bird-from-space epic, The
Giant Claw. One of the only American films in the Japanese kaiju
tradition, this titanic turkey from Columbia Pictures is goofy
Eisenhower-era cheese at its best. And then, the mother of all B-movies,
Plan 9 from Outer Space, the masterpiece from schlockmeister supreme Ed
Wood. With aliens, zombies, Vampira, the final appearance of Bela
Lugosi and more, this is must-see viewing for any connoisseur of bad
cinema.
