Can You Name the Movie?

Happy "Labor" Day from The Vault of Horror.

Hey, what do you want from me, it's the only holiday that's never got its own horror movie.

On a more serious note, The Vault of Horror was saddened to learn of the passing last Friday night of Killer Kowalski, truly one of the most horrifying wrestlers to ever set foot in the ring. He was 81.

The Fly. It is where Gena Davis gives birth to her offspring in a dream, I think. Either that or it is from the opening of The Fly 2.

I am not a wrestling fan, but the name of Vladek The Killer Kowalski is seared into my memory. He is a pop culture icon to historians (and Boomers) in Montreal where, in a 1952 bout, he supposedly ripped off Yukon Eric’s. Actually, it was cauliflowered, it fell off and rolled around the mat.

Kowalski became instantly famous, literally a household name in French Canada. He would appear on local talk shows, usually ending up getting mad at something and putting the host in a headlock, and doing cameos as a heavy in comedy sketches on variety programs.

Good on you for mentioning him. The Killer was a real-life fictional, scary villain and he certainly belongs in the Vault of Horror’s Hall of Fame.

That's Yukon Eric's EAR...

Montreal was definitely the spot where the Killer's fame was at its apex. Legend has it that after he accidentally caused Yukon Eric's cauliflowered ear to drop off during their match, Kowalski was forced by the irate promoter to visit Eric in the hospital. When he arrived and saw Eric with his head bandaged up, something morbid and perverse in his head caused him, in spite of himself, to start laughing at the poor guy, who looked "like Humpty Dumpty". Reporters at the hospital ate it up. The wrestler who had previously been a squeaky clean "good guy" named Tarzan Kowalski would be dubbed Killer Kowalski from then on.

I was going to say "It has to be Cronenberg" but the movie wouldn't come to me.... but yeah, The Fly sounds about right!

Yep, it was indeed Cronenberg's The Fly. It's the infamous "maggot abortion" nightmare sequence.

RayRay: The Fly, with Jeff Goldblum. And no, I did not look at anyone else's answers.

I used to hate doing color. I hated transparency film. The way I did color was by not wanting to know what kind of film was in my camera.
