Cloverfield Sequel ALREADY in the Works?

These days, it seems no one lets the grass grow under their feet--not even giant monsters.
This morning, Bloody-Disgusting posted an exclusive interview with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves from the official premiere of his sure-to-be blockbuster.
During the interview, Reeves gave credence to rumors of a planned sequel, even speculating as to what it could be about:
"While we were on set making the film, we talked about the possibilities and directions of how a sequel can go. The fun of this movie was that it might not have been the only movie being made that night, there might be another movie! In today’s day and age of people filming their lives on their iPhones and handy cams, uploading it to YouTube…That was kind of exciting thinking about that."
Further, the film's writer Drew Goddard indicated that the PG-13 creature feature was originally intended to be a lot more graphically violent:

"The original draft was much more brutal. I wanted a hard R and we didn’t get a hard R, they read it and said this is way to brutal. I will say that I think we pushed the limits on a PG-13 rating. We certainly shot a harder version than what is on the screen. We originally wanted it to be more bloody and disgusting." [Nice plug, guys!]

Well, at least it'll be relatively safe for me to take my monster-lovin' kids to see this weekend. Apparently, Goddard dodged the interesting question of whether a re-edited version of the film will make it to DVD (which means the likely answer is "Yes".)

I can imagine this being much bloodier in a director's cut, there are moments that would definitely benefit from a little more of the gore.

And as much as I loathe sequels (before the Cloverfield Part 1 corpses are even cold) I do like their way of thinking for a possible sequel... it would be fascinating to get multi-perspectives from the same night, or to even see what actually happens at the end. Maybe they can let fans shoot their own experiences and submit them? I would actually prefer to see a "day after" film though.

Also, don't want to repeat myself because I commented elsewhere too, but your other post about what the monster looks like is totally inaccurate.

I'm assuming, for one, that the creature is eventually destroyed, otherwise the tape wouldn't have been found by the Defense Department. It's likely that they did indeed wind up levelling Manhattan.
And on the topic of the creature, I'm really still not convinced that isn't it in the drawing. There were many similarities. I DON'T think it was really a sketch made by someone in the screener though--like I said, looks more like early production art.

I, the people, demand a sequel! And the unrated dvd too! I also think that Cloverfield would make a brilliant video/computer game.

I think you can safely put good money on a director's cut DVD edition.

I was thinking about the idea of different people taping the events of that night before they even made it to the bridge. They have a great way to make a second or third movie here. We never saw the monster die and why do people blow up when they get bit by the lice. If they don't make a new move I will never see a movie by this director again..

With a movie this successful and a viable concept already in mind, I think a sequel is inevitable.

Hope they don't pull a "Blair Witch Project 2" on us...

Harvard (TGW) – SiOnyx is using a material, “black silicon”,
--------------------------------------
Harvard scientists accidentally discovered almost 10 years ago that is 100 to 500 times more sensitive to light than traditional silicon.

The silicon is produced by placing ordinary silicon into a vacuum chamber together with sulfur
--------------------------------------
hexafluoride gas and exposing it to ultra-intense laser pulses equivalent to the collective strength of the total sunlight hitting Earth concentrated on a surface area that's about the size of a human fingernail.

The treated silicon can absorb twice as much visible light as
--------------------------------------
regular silicon and unlike standard silicon is sensitive to invisible infrared light. It can absorb approximately 96 to 98 percent of visible light.

SiOnyx, a three year old startup
--------------------------------------
with $11 million in the bank, has licensed the material.

Black silicon could radically change the solar industry.

Furthermore, black silicon can be manufactured using the same equipment used today.
