The Happening a Razzie Favorite

The 29th annual Razzie Award nominations are in, honoring the worst of the worst of 2008, and M. Night Shyamalan's soul-questioningly bad The Happening has deservedly been given more attention than any other film of the year.

The baffling end-of-the-world flick was nominated for Worst Picture, and M. Night was nominated for both Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. Also, Mark Wahlberg's stultifying performance earned him a Worst Actor nomination. Personally, I thought he did a much better job talking to animals on Saturday Night Live.

In other horror-related Razzie news, Jessica Alba was nominated Worst Actress for her work in The Eye, and Paris Hitlon Worst Supporting Actresss for Repo! The Genetic Opera.

I lost track of M. Night after "Signs". I love the turn of words you chose to describe how awful the movie is. "Soul-questioningly bad." That's awesome.

You know, it's kind of weird but no matter how horrible M. Night's stuff has been getting, I can't find it within myself to hate the guy. Everything he does seems so...different(but in a way I can't put my finger on)? I've seen every single one of his films though, except for this one. So am I in for a change of mind? Maybe I'll wait till it hits the dollar shelve at Family Video.

Thanks, Dark. I actually enjoyed The Village, too. It was only at Lady in the Water that he lost me. And Grim, trust me, you're in for a change of heart if you check out this movie.

I love J-Horror, (this is no secret) and I am, ready for it?..................an fan of remakes, GASP!!!!!!!!! And to be perfectly honest, I did not think Jessica Alba ruined that film. The fright gags were new, the coffee house scene, (one of my new favorite gags ever) Replaced the calligraphy scene brilliantly, the 5.0 audio track is stellar and overall the film was reworked so well that I was not focused on the fact that Alba was the lead. It's a shame that this film found it's way on to the worst movie list, I chalk it up to Re-make stigma.

I feel like The Happening has been getting way too much bad press. Much like how some movies can be built up too high, this movie seems to be knocked down too low. The acting was on par for all of M. Nights films. The sort of non-emotion emotion. The lack of character has worked in the past because it allowed you to focus more on the story. Happening didn't have all that fleshed out of a story, but I actually enjoyed how they never explained what happened. I also found it creepy overall. Plus, you gotta give him props for going R. Overall, there has been many worst films.

I really can't think of any at the moment. It was an absolute turd.
