Happy Birthday to the Undisputed King of Horror

On this date in 1911, in St. Louis, Missouri, one Vincent Leonard Price Jr. entered this mortal plane. For my money, there had never been before, nor has there been since, an actor who more naturally and effortlessly epitomized the horror genre like he did. The world was quite literally made a better place for his being in it, and even though he left us nearly 16 years ago, the body of work that remains will continue to thrill lovers of Grand Guignol for generations to come. Thank you, Mr. Price for populating our nightmares with your brilliant performances, and making sure we never forget how important it is to smile once in a while, even when you're being scared out of your wits...

without a doubt, one of my fave actors of all time...the fact that he always reminded me of my late uncle always helped.

Vinny, wherever you are, you are missed!

I love the Edgar Allen Poe adaptations he did with Roger Corman. Vincent was a hot blonde.

On an equally celebratory note, Christopher Lee was born on this day in 1922.

Good stuff B-Sol. Last Man On Earth is my all time favorite Vinny Price movie.

Hail to the king, baby.

Great post Brian! I loved Price in The House Of Usher! He had a way of looking like the friendly neighbor next door, but could pull off the sinister evil villian so well! Great actor!

I LOVE Last Man on Earth!

And yes, best birthday wishes to Christoper Lee as well today. How weird that they have the same birthday.

As a matter of fact, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee (FAR more the face of horror, as far as I'm concerned) have May 27th birthdays, and Peter Cushing was born on May 26 (though all in different years). The best part of this - they were each costars and excellent friends for many years. Is it a full moon every end of May?

It's my birthday on the 28th. By all accounts, I have a face for horror too.

I love Vincent Price as well, MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH is one of my all time favorites, as is THE RAVEN.

Speaking of which, wouldn't you say Uncle Boris could be called the king of old school horror as well?

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Karloff. But Vincent Price will always be tops.

Funny thing for me is that I didn't appreciate Mr. Price's work until I got older. When I was a kid it was all Hammer and Universal Horror monsters.

Now I see Vincent Price's Prospero as one of the great horror villians of all time.

Damn now I have to go watch MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH again...
